CONSERVATION FUTURES

Building an Integrated Knowledge System for safe storage of cultural knowledge, reshaping conservation into the future.

Integrated Knowledge System (IKS)

A Secure Platform for Indigenous Data Sovereignty

The IKS was built to support one simple but powerful truth:

you should always retain ownership and control over your data.

Developed in partnership with Indigenous communities and Elders, the IKS
is a culturally safe, easy-to-use platform that allows you to store, organise,
and share data on your terms — with clear boundaries and full intellectual
property (IP) protection.

What You Can Do With the IKS

  • Store photos, videos, audio, text, files, and location data in a secure environment

  • Share data temporarily or permanently with individuals or groups

  • Control access at any time — including disabling or expiring access

  • Transfer ownership when needed, with full transparency

  • Track how data is being accessed and by whom

Two Powerful Ways to Share

1. Shared Access (1 to many):

Keep ownership of your data while allowing others to view it — with time limits, permissions, and revocable access.

2. Ownership Transfer (1 to 1):

Transfer full data ownership to another verified user (such as a community member, organisation, or partner). The original owner can still view the data, but no longer controls it unless it’s shared back.

Why It Matters

For too long, Indigenous data has been collected, copied, and
used without consent. The IKS provides a practical way to:

    • Prevent misuse and unauthorised access

    • Ensure cultural and community knowledge stays where it
      belongs

    • Rebuild trust with institutions by enabling transparent,
      respectful collaboration

    • Support education, research, and decision-making led by
      the right people

Designed for Everyday Use

The IKS was created with new and emerging Indigenous
organisations in mind. It offers a full starter tech stack —
everything needed to begin storing, managing, and using data in
a way that:

It’s simple enough for non-technical users, yet powerful enough to scale as your team grows.

Who Uses the IKS

  • Indigenous families preserving stories, sites, and family records

  • Ranger groups documenting sacred areas and Country care
    practices

  • Researchers returning data to community custodians

  • Aboriginal organisations managing culturally sensitive knowledge

  • Shire councils and government departments working to follow
    proper protocols
